A Fickett Rollingwood Estates Home for Sale: Palos Verdes

In 1955, Edward H. Fickett, FAIA was hired by builders, Walter R. Sant and Sons to create 400 original homes in the area known as Rollingwood Estates in Palos Verdes.  The planned community received "House of the Year Design Award from Better homes and Gardens, where they referred to Fickett as the "Frank Lloyd Wright of the Fifties."

Today, we have one of those homes being listed for $1,150,000.  Located at 25 Rollingwood Drive, Rolling Hills Estates, 90274, the 1956 mid-century modern has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in over 2,010sf of living space.
Built in the post and beam style of the period, this ranch-style has plenty of windows and beautiful finishes to take your breath away, day or evening.  The living area has a wall of windows with plenty of views.
As the house has an open floor plan, the dining and living areas are joined to allow the owner to arrange their interiors accordingly.  The present owner is using the original living area as the dining area.  The covered porch area has been enclosed to maximize living space.
This beautiful private entrance garden area behind the 2-car garage helps protect you from the elements when the winds start to pick up.

The light and bright renovated galley kitchen comes loaded with space to allow for entertaining with ease.
The enclosed porch just off the kitchen area is perfect for families and entertaining.  Fickett always took into consideration the kitchen and opened it up to living space so not to exclude anyone from the fun.  He was known to have been the originator of the open kitchen.
A dining area has been converted into a breakfast area, since the owner's have chosen to create their dining area in front of the fireplace.
This 3 bedroom house boasts sizable bedrooms.
Fickett always enjoyed deigning homes with many opportunities for windows and natural light as you can see by the rear exterior view below.
Resting on over a quarter acre of land, the home boasts amazing views of the Los Angeles basin, Queen's Necklace coastline and the Port of Los Angeles, which Fickett had also designed.  With a 180 degree view, this home is truly exceptional, as well as award-winning.

  1. Couldn't be more impressed indeed! I've seen beautiful homes in buckeye arizona apartments that looked like this as well.
