Ray Kappe's "Dailey House" Moves Quickly in the Night

As I wrote about the Edward H. Fickett, FAIA on San Lorenzo, the Ray Kappe, FAIA "Dailey House" moved onto market and off market at relatively the same time.  If you didn't make a move on either the Dailey House or Satnick Residence, No. 4 within a couple week's time, you missed opportunities of a lifetime.  
Plenty of room to sprawl in this architectural.
I have a close association in my head with both Fickett and Kappe, so I find the irony to have both listings hit at the same time a beautiful thing.   What Kappe designed for 14623 Hilltree Road in Santa Monica Canyon is extraordinary.  With the finest of resources, the modern 1970 design is placed in the proper environment.  It was on market at $5,975,000 and lasted two weeks before going pending while back-up offers still being accepted.
The kitchen is clean and handsome with the most handy of modern appliances and tasteful touches to preserve the integrity of the design with beautiful natural light pouring into the area. 
The 4,755 square foot two-story modern with Kappe architectural details and efficiency nestles on 9,288 square feet in the Canyon. The dining area is exposed to the canyon through floor to ceiling transom and clerestory windows.  The ceiling creates a tree house feeling, while the lines are clearly influenced by architectural grandpa, Frank Lloyd Wright.  Does anyone get a Fallingwater feeling here?  I do.
The family room provides plenty of room for guests.
The 4 bedroom and 3 bathroom modern home has spacious and light-filled rooms.  






Patios, decks, gardens, spa, koi pond and water-features aplenty, the zen one feels when on the property is pretty spectacular.  The is such a calm with Kappe's work and this is the perfect setting for one of his designs.  The canyon is deserving of such a spectacular piece of architecture that imbibes the Kappe architectural philosophy brilliantly.

Solar Roadways: Pathways to the Future

When it comes to figuring a move into the green future, it comes down to infrastructure.  The concept behind Solar Roadways is the most resourceful out there in the marketplace beyond rooftop photo-voltaic panels, which have improved in the last few years to provide seamless appearance and efficiency. Still, more fine-tuning is needed with them.  It surprises me to think that local governments own a lot of real estate with rooftops, but they have not gotten into the business of green energy?  It would generate money without coming from parking fines or other ways that hit the pocket.

Solar Roadways provides energy flowing in and out of your home through street panels made of glass.  The engineering of materials is becoming more fine-tuned as time provides the company to advance.  Eliminating fossil fuels used for not only the gas in our cars, but the pavement the roads are laid.

DWP - SOLAR INCENTIVE PROGRAM

With the recent advent of DWP's largest urban rooftop solar program in the nation, now buying energy from customers, we may might see a stronger push into greener eco-design engineering.  Unfortunately, I have to point out some of the stingey moves DWP is implementing in rolling out the program to buy back solar power.  Up until 2016, DWP will pay customers 17 cents per kilowatt hour for energy produced on their own equipment, up to 100 megawatts of solar power.  Applications can be submitted for DWP's Solar Incentive Program

The Jon Pylypchuk Installation of cigarette butts with something to say made me laugh.  Throughout the fair, his work is displayed.  "It's not you, it's me, I will always love you dear" is a great work from the artist.  Very playful.  The disgruntled cast of characters with bodies constructed and painted to resemble discarded cigarettes endowed with human attributes of wooden arms and legs.  Some have been equipped with picket signs bearing a range of messages from ad hominem attacks to liberation slogans to new age mantras and zen koans. With the sculptures standing between six to nine feet tall and arranged into small groups, the space becomes the site of a cartoonish political rally.
