In celebration of Richard Neutra's 120th birthday, which coincides with the 22nd anniversary of Earth Day, comes 'The Neutra 4k-8k run-walk for HEALTH'.  It's a good reason to wake up early and have a walk around the Silver Lake Reservoir for a good cause; the preservation of modern architecture including the VDL II House.  The run begins at 7:40am with an Opening Ceremony on the Silver Lake Meadow located across from VDL House, 2300 Silver Lake Boulevard.

Afternoon and early evening events begin at 11:00am and run until 6:45pm with events including a Self-Guided Tour of VDL Research House ($15), Wine Reception on the VDL House patio ($35) and Light Dinner with VDL preservation VIPs ($75).

Your participation and/or purchase of any of the events of this day, aggregating $50 or more, will entitle you to a year's membership in the Neutra Institute  for Survival Through Design.  Proceeds go towards preservation initiatives.

Richard Neutra founded Neutra Practice at 85 in 1926 while he was still living in the Schindler House.  A few years later, he would take on the design of the Lovell Health House (1929).  The original Research House later became the focus of a cluster of ten Neutra-designed houses on Argent Place overlooking Silver Lake that were influenced by the Lovell Health House but at much more modest prices.  Unfortunately, the majority of the original VDL Research House burned in 1963.  What exists today is VDL II a newly configured home on the old footprint.  Currently, Cal Poly Pomona College of Environmental Design oversees the house and it's preservation.

Sign up in advance as space is limited for the evening events.  Registration for the run / walk / bike is available online or on the day of at VDL House.
